If the SHO is the real deal, I guess time will tell, it will change the playing field in years to come. I'm sure Mercury, Evinrude and the others have bought one of these motors and have it torn down in their lab. I'm sure they are working on one of their own as I type this reply.

Same here, It did sound good. It was a little louder than I expected. I thought it would be quiet like a Etec..

Motor looks to big for the boat. Time will tell, you would think some durability was given up trying to make it's weight comparable too a 2 stroke. First thing to go will be the gear case.

The cowling has a large ram-style air intake on the top, makes it look large, but it is the same size as the old 200-250 Yamaha four strokes.

The gearcase that they used is the same one they put under the 350 H.P. V-8 four stroke and the 300 H.P. H.P.D.I. It holds up well, besides, 80% of gearcase failures seem to come from owner inflicted wounds. Saltwater guys rarely have a gearcase failure because there is not much to hit off shore.
