For side imaging, I say Lowrance hands down. I looked at both systems side by side last summer at ICAST, and there is no comparison. The detail and quality of imaging on the Lowrance Structure Scan overwhelms the detail of the HB side imaging. Have had the system on my boat since last fall, and not one problem at all so far.

Thinking logically, Lowrance should be better since they stole Humminbird's technology and all they had to put money into were improvements and not all the original development.

| Hummingbird. Liked the old US version of Lowrance, but they have gone down hill since Linda left. |

Pimp....Go ahead and jump in on the wild ride of NAVICO ownership. I've gone ahead started a business called LOW-MEX Technologies. Low-MEX will stock pre-sterilized Navico antennas, head units and cables which can be rented by users while they await some type of responsiveness from Navico customer service.
LOW-MEX...A name you can trust! |

Jarhead,
I've got your loaner unit which was obtained from another NAVICO user. There will be a $10.00 delivery charge. Please make the check payable to LOW-MEX LLC.

I saw the HDS7 when you had it on your boat. Nice graphics. Did any mositure get into the unit during the rain shower? I know you said you were going to let it dry off before you put it back in the box.

Don't worry Fred...
It was raining when you gave me the unit so I immediately put it in a plastic bag to prevent the "Screendoor on a Submarine" syndrome that seems to plague these units. |

Don't you mean to say used to plague these units??
I guess you don't get out much or fail to read up to date info. The water problem was solved last summer. There has not been a problem with units built after that time.
Look at it this way...It's kinda like Mercury. 50% of tournament anglers run Merc's the other 50% is split between Johnson/Evenrude, Yamaha and the other brands. Of course Merc is going to have more problems when they out number the competition 2 to 1. Well until you throw the E-Tec in there.
Wonder what the ratio is between Lowrance and Bird....Maybe safe to say 6 to 1....hell maybe even more. Next time your at the ramp on Thursday and there is a bunch of boats around do the math for me would ya???

Jason, I know you are a loyal Lowrance man and I'll go as far as to say what you have said may be true, probably is. The fact is, ANY manufacturer is going to have issues at one time or another. To me, it's how they handle those issues that make the company, and bottom line on that is it is a crapshoot at best as to who you get on the phone at Navico when you have a problem. It may sound like people are just jumping on the Linda Colt band wagon, but the truth is she took care of customers, and since she's been gone it just sucks, really no other way to put it. Hell, they sent me my replacement units when I finally got warranty to settle, and when THOSE units failed (6 months old), they didn't want to warranty them because I didn't have a bill of sale. I tried to explain to the fella that I had the invoices from them when they were shipped, but that's not a receipt and they had no record of sending them to me anyway. After talking with 3 people (after being on hold for an un-Godly amount of time) I finally got someone that point blank said he would do me a favor and get the faulty unit replaced. I made a smirky remark about then about the other employees attitudes and he smirked right back with "how do you like the customer service now?" as sarcastically as he could make it.
I said before that I would never have another Lowrance product in my boat, but since Blazer already had them in it I went with it. Now that the Blazer is sold (delivering it tomorrow) you can bet there will not be Lowrance in the new boat. And if I can keep another individual from having to experience what I did, all because I was a lucky customer that spent money on their product, I'll do my best from here on out. Don't take it personal, but their CS is beyond lacking. |
